Ironic: Russian man shot in debate over Kant’s “Critique of Pure Reason”

They didn’t adhere to objective morality!

The AP is reporting that a Russian man was shot when a philosophical debate over Kant’s “Critique of Pure Reason” devolved into violence. Police in Rostov-on Don said two young men were discussing Kant’s ethics when they decided to throw both ethics AND reason out the window and go to blows. It escalated when one student pulled out a small nonlethal pistol and fired repeatedly, injuring the other student but not killing him. It was unclear which part of Kant’s philosophy they disagreed over, but it’s clear that at least one held the belief that the ends justify the means.

Here’s a three-minute animation on Kant’s philosophical perspective
