IKEA’s Augmented Reality App May End One Of The Biggest Problems With Furniture Shopping

LISTEN TO TLR’S LATEST PODCAST:

IKEA released an app that may solve one of the biggest problems with shopping at its store: Knowing if the products fit or look good for their destined location.

As Apple made iOS 11 available Tuesday, it also made augmented reality and the IKEA Place app available. Augmented reality is a technology that overlays computer-generated imagery onto the real world, providing an altered view of reality. (Think Pokémon Go, where fictional creatures appear next to a park bench, for example, while looking through a device’s screen).

With the app, shoppers can now accurately decipher whether the furniture they may or may not want is suitable for their home.

Users can select, rotated and configure multiple items and even take a virtual picture to get a long-lasting idea of how the arrangement looks.

Through Apple’s ARKit, the app is free to download as long as the user has updated their smartphone to the latest operating system.
