House Republicans Move to Impeach Eric Holder (VIDEO)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republicans will call for Attorney General Eric Holder to be impeached for lying Congress and failing to execute the law. Texas Representative Peter Olson drafted the articles on Wednesday which relate to the Operation Fast and Furious Scandal, the Attorney General’s failure to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act and his failure to prosecute IRS officials who were targeting conservative nonprofit groups. [contextly_sidebar id=”8d863f384d3ba8f23a19df796f0edbb6″]

“Since the House voted in 2012 to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt, the pattern of disregard for the rule of law and refusal to be forthright has only continued,” Olson stated.

Holder’s refusal to disclose documents related to the defunct Fast and Furious Operation earned him the distinction of being the first Attorney General to ever be held in contempt of Congress. His failure to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act or to prosecute IRS officials has further earned him the indignation of conservatives.

While House Republicans may have the numbers for the articles to pass, there has been no indication that Speaker of the House John Boehner will bring the matter to the floor for a vote. Even if he did, the effort would undoubtedly fail in the Democratic controlled Senate.

Nonetheless, the move represents the latest denouncement of an embattled administration which has suffered a long line of scandals and public disappointment over policies such as the Affordable Care Act. President Obama’s approval rating is at an all-time low. He’s facing a potentially devastating wave in the form of the 2014 midterm elections—if the GOP can wrestle control of the Senate, the Obama administration may face tough inquisitions. Eric Holder will not be the only official under the gun at that point.

As previously detailed, the case for impeaching President Obama is extensive.
