Horrifying Video Shows TSA Fully Frisking 10-Year-Old Girl Over Juice Pouch

Kevin Payne and his daughter, Vendela, were passing through the Raleigh-Durham International Airport when TSA Agents pulled them aside for a security check. The 10-year-old was required to comply to a complete pat-down after discovering a Capri Sun pouch in her carry-on.

The distressing situation was recorded by the father and later made public by the San Diego Union-Tribune. It was after the scanner had broken down that the agents told the father that he and the child would have to be frisked. The father can be heard on the video saying that it would make more sense to simply use another machine, to which the agent explained that he could not circumvent protocol.

“…I understand that’s what the make-sense thing is,” the agent said, “but you have to understand, when it alarms–no matter what we have to do the test, that’s the way it is. I understand what you’re saying, I know there’s a lot of things in a make-sense world, but guess what? We don’t live in a make-sense world…”

While Payne understands that safety is a priority, he felt that this seemed excessive.

“I’m a very big proponent of security, and if they were patting me down no problem, but this was a 10-year-old girl,” Payne told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “The whole system seems to not work the way it should be working.”

The TSA softened its guidelines for screening children in 2011, but Payne told the newspaper that her pat-down didn’t look “modified.”

The father watched helplessly behind the plexiglass window while his daughter was groped from head to toe. He was warned that if he intervened, he would be arrested.

He told the paper that upon observing most pat-downs recorded on video, the adults’ last about a minute. Start to finish, in real-time, his daughter’s pat-down was 1 minute and 47 seconds. “It just didn’t seem like it was an efficient pat-down,” he stated.

“Since pat-down screening is conducted to determine whether prohibited items are concealed under clothing, sufficient pressure must be applied in order to ensure detection,” the TSA said in a statement.

Although there was no formal complaint to TSA filed, he is considering doing so, and possibly with legal representation. Pain told the paper that he first wanted to see how people would react on social media, to make sure he wasn’t overreacting.
