Heartbreaking Footage Of Bloodied Little Boy Rescued In Syria Goes Viral

Footage of a disheveled and dazed little boy wiping the blood and dust off his face after being rescued from the rubble of an airstrike in Syria has gone viral on social media, pulling the spotlight back to the grim realities of the Syrian civil war.

An aid worker scoops the boy up and quickly sets him down by himself inside the ambulance before returning to rescue more from the rubble of the air strike in Aleppo. Dazed, the boy quietly tries to wipe the blood off the side of his face as people are heard shouting and bustling in the background.

Aid workers have identified him as Omran Daqneesh. He is later joined in the ambulance by several other bloodied children.

WATCH:

Syrian rebels controlled parts of the city and recently broke the siege of President Bashar al-Assad’s forces, heating up the fight in what has become an impending humanitarian disaster. The images of children being rescued from the rubble, particularly this little boy, have sparked renewed debate and concern on social media over the five-year war.

People began photoshopping the little boy into political photos, such as this one in which he sits as “the real representative” of the Syrian people.
