OTTUMWA, IA–Late last month, Brittany Songer, 23, had a craving for some Mickey D’s, and went to the drive-thru with her fiance, Cory Long. They ordered two McDoubles, but after a bite, Songer could tell something was wrong.
“It tasted bad, and I thought maybe it was because he had cologne on his hands when he bit it. Then I opened the burger and the cheese was just covered with weed,” Songer, 23, told the Ottumwa Evening Post. “Once I opened those burgers, you couldn’t smell McDonald’s anymore. You could only smell the illegal drugs that were on it.”
Not amused, the two decided to get the police involved and reported the marijuana McDoubles to law enforcement.
The substance was sent to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation to be tested. Lt. Jason Bell stated that whatever was placed on the burger “appears to be consistent with marijuana,” though results won’t confirm that for two months.
It’s still unclear why anyone would put marijuana on Songer’s burger, but one strong theory could be a drug deal gone wrong. This wouldn’t be the first time a McDonald’s employee has used the drive-thru as a clandestine way to sell drugs. Marijuana and even heroine busts have occurred at the golden arches in recent years. It’s possible that Songer inadvertently ordered the “special”, and if the alleged perpetrator is caught, they could be charged with a Class D felony. If it was a drug deal, it was poorly executed given it went to the wrong person, and wasn’t even wrapped.
One employee was found with drug paraphernalia, but no one has been arrested.
Songer is concerned with what adverse effects her baby may suffer from the marijuana she ingested, but chances are it was probably the most healthy thing on her burger.
