A Massachusetts man bought a couple of lottery tickets to break a $100 bill and won $10 million. The Associated Press reported that he had just wanted to get some change to buy some sandwiches with, but now he can send someone else out to get them.
The man will claim a one time payment of $6.5 million after taxes. The Consumerist reported that he will buy a house, invest part of it, and take his granddaughter to DisneyWorld.
Originally, the United States would fund the government through such taxes. George Washington even participated in public lotteries in order to fund infrastructure project. Considering that the government will receive $3.5 million from this, why exactly do we even have income or state taxes? Why couldn’t we just fund the entire government through lottery taxes?
