Gun Safety Instructor Shoots Pastor During Demonstration

A pastor in Sacramento is recovering after being shot by his own gun instructor. Tom Smith, a pastor who helps with security at his church, was accidentally shot when the instructor discharged his weapon during a demonstration on gun safety.

Police say the instructor was acting out a scenario when the weapon discharged. It appears the instructor may have believed he was using the mock gun he was demonstrating with prior to the incident.

The church was hosting the demonstration as an effort to encourage parishioners to arm themselves. Many churches in California have taken similar action in this wake of the attacks on San Bernardino.
