Gun Owner Responds To ‘Angry Liberal’ In Open Letter

A Massachusetts gun owner penned an open letter in the Boston Globe Saturday in response to riding a train with an “angry liberal” who ranted on the phone about “bloodthirsty gun nuts.”

The gun owner, who signs the letter as A. Linden, described how the man sitting next to him on the train called gun rights supporters “bloodthirsty gun nuts,” claimed the National Rifle Association (NRA) is “murderous” and labeled politicians who support the Second Amendment as “inbred redneck politicians” while talking on the phone.

“So, to the angry liberal who sat next to me on the commuter rail: I don’t hate you,” Linden wrote in the letter. “I don’t have any ill feelings toward you. I don’t wish to do you harm. And I don’t regret sitting next to you. On the contrary; I feel bad for you. It must hurt carrying that much hate inside of you.”

According to the letter, the anti-Second Amendment man was unaware during his phone conversation that Linden supports gun rights, has a concealed carry permit and was even packing a 9mm pistol on the train.

“You obviously have strong opinions about this hot topic,” Linden wrote. “So, let me say this as plainly as I can: If a bad guy with a gun had decided to walk onto that train and start shooting people, I would have been prepared and able to use my gun to defend my own life and the lives of everyone else on that train, including yours. Although you may hate me, a gun owner, I would risk my life for you.”

Linden ended his letter, “Your liberal self-righteousness and ignorance may have made you feel superior and comfortable, but during that 40-minute train ride to Boston, my gun kept you safe.”

Gun control has been an especially hot topic since President Barack Obama announced executive action on gun control Tuesday. The Daily Caller News Foundation analyzed 195 cases from July 2014 to July 2015 and found an impressive number of gun owners,  including many elderly people and children, saved themselves and others from attackers.
