Gorsuch: Trump's Comments About Judge Are "Disheartening" and "Demoralizing"

Hartford Courant is reporting that in a private meeting with Senator Richard Blumenthal, Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch criticized President Donald Trump’s comments on the judge “demoralizing” and “disheartening.”

The comments Gorsuch was referring to involved a federal judge in Washington who put a stay on Trump’s effort to suspend the U.S. refugee program and ban travelers from seven predominately Muslim countries. Trump took to Twitter to call the judge a “so-called” judge who had “put our country in peril” and saying that “Bad people are very happy!”

Trump has since taken to Twitter to criticize Blumenthal for making public Gorsuch’s comments saying, “Sen.Richard Blumenthal, who never fought in Vietnam when he said for years he had (major lie),now misrepresents what Judge Gorsuch told him?”

NPR’s Tamara Keith has confirmed the comments with a member of the Supreme Court nomination team escorting Gorsuch through the get-acquainted meetings, which is would be at odds with Trump’s suggestion that the comments were “misrepresented.”

A federal appeals court will issue a ruling this week on whether or not to keep Trump’s executive order blocked. The case is expected to go to the Supreme Court, reports Hartford Courant.

On Wednesday Trump said that even a “bad high school student” would rule that his executive order was legal. “I think it’s sad, I think it’s a sad day,” he said at a gathering of law enforcement officials in Washington.
