Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Corona!

Stay at home, and you will live… at least for a while, but would you trade a life of alleged security for a life of servitude for your family and your children?

Sons and daughters of the American Republic, you are citizens of a country that was forged over 243 years ago with a system of government that our Founding Fathers gave their lives to create in an attempt to protect your natural rights from being violated by any other man or body.

Yet today, under the guise of security from a virus, we see arguably some of the worst tyranny in the modern era. I am not a fool; I am not saying that COVID-19 should be ignored entirely. However, I ask you – will we as a people allow the government to destroy our economy and the blessings of liberty for ourselves and future generations over the fear of a sickness?

Recently, I was attacked on Twitter for posting a meme that went viral comparing people who snitch on people who violate government-mandated quarantine to people who would’ve snitched on Anne Frank or Harriet Tubman. This post even resulted in the first two death threats I have ever received online since I became a writer.

My fellow citizens, is the fear of this virus worth the loss of liberty we have allowed? Have we become so blind as not to see that the effects of government control over us are worse than a sickness whose magnitude I firmly believe has been greatly overblown? We must not allow ourselves to be taken for fools as the effects of a collapsed economy will enslave future generations of Americans to work not for themselves and their own betterment, but instead as serfs doomed to toil for their lords. Government doesn’t care about your safety or security; it is nothing more than an endless vacuum of power that seeks to control every aspect of our lives.

Take a look at what has happened since the beginning of this quarantine, our rights of speech, freedom of religion, assembly, and redress have been restricted by people within law enforcement who have revealed their true colors as government goons who carry out the will of their overlords on us. Are we to allow this tyranny to endure because we have become far too fearful of anything those in power tell us to be afraid of? Are we willing to allow our entire economy to collapse because the media and our politicians tell us to stay home for fear of dying of a virus? While I am not suggesting that anyone who is seriously at risk put themselves in harm’s way, I am saying we as free men and women of this republic must stand up and face these power-hungry monsters and demand that our rights be respected!

A sovereign individual has no master among men, and while I do not wish for blood, I am not afraid to lose my life in defense of liberty. As I have often said, without life, there’s no liberty, and without liberty, life becomes slavery. Our country has faced many epidemics since it’s birth, but not one of them was cause for government to restrict the rights of the people. Do you think the founders thought all the restraints on government laid out in our constitution would be loosened because they faced a smallpox epidemic? Certainly not! America can and must fight this virus without restricting the God-given rights of all men. If we do not, then we will have allowed everything that makes us Americans to die and have become just the same as Communist China who unleashed this sickness on the world.

It is high time we remember our heritage as a nation of rebels who stood in defiance of tyranny and demand our freedom instead of acting like spineless jellyfish! Patrick Henry stated so eloquently 245 years ago that there are times when we must fight for the freedoms government refuses to acknowledge when he said,

“They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. The millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable–and let it come! I repeat it, sir, let it come.

“It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace– but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”

We must decide today my friends will we live free, or will we allow our rights to be trampled and suffer every time there is a crisis? Will we keep our rich inheritance as American citizens, or will we be content to live securely as serfs? May God forbid the day from coming that the American people fear living free, so they voluntarily put on the shackles of servitude!

As for me, I know the path I have chosen – victory or death!
