Previous shows have featured topics such as school choice, outreach to youth activists, Obama’s second term agenda, health care exchanges and the fiscal cliff. The upcoming show will feature Representative Thomas Massie, a Kentucky congressman and farmer who graduated from MIT. He’s currently tied for the #1 spot in FreedomWorks top rated legislator scorecard because of his dedication to fiscal principles. Massie will appear this coming Wednesday, February 13th to discuss his response to the President’s State of the Union Address, the grassroots vs. establishment civil war in the GOP and his push for legislation to relax restrictions on hemp farmers in Kentucky. Viewers who tune in will be given the opportunity to ask questions in a live chatroom moderated by FW staffers.
FreedomWorks on Tap is the brainchild of Trey Grover, the Press Assistant of the organization. When looking at options to help train activists and connect with more people, Grover suggested that having a regular live streaming event would be a great addition to the tools that FW gives to help educate and entertain lovers of limited government. Grover’s reasons for starting the livestream were because he says, “There are too many barriers to getting in touch with activists and having a regular weekly show seemed like the perfect low cost way of connecting to as many people as possible. FreedomWorks On Tap gives activists critical information and talking points to combat the mainstream media and establishment bias against the issues of limited government.”
Another organizer behind the program is FreedomWorks Activist Relations Coordinator, Jeff Scully. Scully manages FreedomWorks online campaigns and plays an integral role in maintaining FreedomConnector, a grassroots website that organizes local activist groups. Scully’s work on the Wednesday night show is important because, “FreedomWorks on Tap gives us an opportunity to build coalitions within the liberty movement. We’ve had guests from organizations such as Heritage Action, The Campaign for Liberty, Students for Liberty, the Independent Womens Forum and Young Americans for Liberty. Building relationships with organizations like these and others will help us win important battles for liberty in the coming election seasons. When it’s an off year for elections, we need things like this show to stay connected and stay organized so we don’t lose momentum.”
FreedomWorks has taken a huge leap forward over the last year in the technology arena and it’s given the staff expanded capabilities in broadcasting their message to more people. FreedomWorks on Tap arose out of the new production studio built in the summer of 2012 to produce television commercials, livestreams, event photography and a forthcoming project known as “FreedomWorks University”. FreedomWorks University will feature educational videos about civic activism, economics and constitutional law starring big names in the liberty movement such as Peter Schiff, Jeffrey Tucker, Judge Andrew Napolitano, Steve Horwitz and many more. It’s a major project, three years in the making and will be an important tool in giving the grassroots the knowledge they need to understand the principles they are fighting for. FreedomWorks On Tap is on point to make a big splash in 2013 with bigger name guests, hotter topics and more personal interaction with leaders of the liberty movement. With the mainstream media going the way of the dinosaur, shows like this will be critical in getting people to turn off the TV and turn on their computers to educate themselves. Anyone interested in getting critical information about how to expand freedom in their community should definitely tune in Wednesday nights for a show that’s destined for greatness.
