A former Florida police officer allegedly threatened two teenage boys with a gun earlier in April because their car was too noisy.
Police arrested Mario Lazaro Perez, a former Hialeah cop, after he allegedly struck one of the teens with a gun, threatened to kill them and punched one of them, the Sun Sentinel reported Friday.
Tyler Muraida, 19, drove by Perez’s house Monday night in his Honda s2000 with a 15 year-old friend. Muraida maintains that Perez jumped into his own car and chased them to the security gate at the front of the community.
Perez pointed his gun at the two teens as he walked up to their car, police said. He demanded that they turn off the car. During the exchange, Perez threatened to put three bullets in Muraida and cursed him out about his driving practices, the police report said.
“And, he’s like, ‘Don’t move. If you keep moving, I’m going to put three in you,” Muraida said of the incident.
Perez circled to the other side of the car and put his gun in the neck of the 15 year-old boy. He ordered them to turn the car back on; when they did, he hit the 15 year old in the head with his gun, the police report said.
The boys called the police and their parents, who met them in a Publix parking lot after the incident.
“It’s appalling to know that somebody doesn’t have enough self control and that he would get to the point where he would draw a gun on somebody,” Muraida’s father said about the incident. “There are better ways to approach something like that.”
Police charged Perez with aggravated assault with a weapon and aggravated battery; he is being held on a $21,000 bond.
The Miami Police Department and Perez’s lawyer could not be reached for comment.
