FBI: Don’t flash laser pointers at airplanes (VIDEO)

It’s all fun and games until someone winds up dead.

QUEENS, NY – The Federal Bureau of Investigation has announced that it will be investigating incidents at LaGuardia airport that involved lasers being pointed at airplane pilots during their approaches to land.

The FBI is seeking information about two separate incidents where the cockpits of planes were illuminated with green lasers, making their approach to land extremely dangerous. Investigators have tracked down the location of one pointer as originating from the intersection of Broadway and Steinway in Astoria, Queens.

LaGuardia has reported over 54 incidents of citizens pointing lasers at airplanes, up 17% last year. “The pilots will tell you it takes away their night vision – they’re literally blind for a short period of time,” said one police officer.

No deaths have been reported as of yet but pilots have suffered eye injuries.

Police have successfully tracked citizens shining laser pointers at flying vehicles. The video below shows an entire scenario unfold where someone is spotted from the air, radios a position to authorities on the ground, and successfully captures the assailant.
