Democrats are trying an emotional appeal to gain support in their fight against President Donald Trump’s so-called “Muslim ban.”

Trump signed an executive order Friday suspending all refugee admissions from any country for 120 days, and a 90-day moratorium on U.S. entry of any citizen from seven Middle Eastern countries. The orders also cap the number of allowed refugees for 2017 at 50,000, halving the figure originally approved by former President Obama.
The order was met with widespread outcry from the left, calling the measure a “Muslim ban.” The backlash came to a head Monday evening when recently dismissed former Attorney General Sally Yates said she would not uphold the ban, and called upon her colleagues to do the same. Yates was terminated by the Trump Administration Tuesday for “refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States,” the White House reports.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer attempted to reassure those concerned about the executive order that it was not an “immigration ban” at a press conference Tuesday, saying that the order was merely a “vetting system to keep America safe.”
