Honestly who is surprised?
A New Jersey computer tech named “Puking Monkey” hacked his E-Z Pass and found out that they’re being read all over New York City. Monkey boy rigged his unit to a miniature cow that would “moo” every time that it was read. And what did he find? That the E-Z Pass is read all over the Big Apple, not just at toll-booths. He posted a video of his adventure, shared here.
The DOT admits is has been tracking them for years to monitor traffic flows, although that is not the use that is disclosed to users. The Puking Monkey says if you don’t want to be tracked you should put your E-ZPass in an anti- static bag. Like these.
