Downing Street: Explosive ‘May Well Have Brought Down’ Russian Plane

A British investigation into the Russian plane crash that killed all 224 people onboard in EgyptSaturday reveals it “may well have been brought down by an explosive device,” Downing Street reported Wednesday.

A spokesman from Prime Minister David Cameron’s office said it is too early to “categorically say” why the plane crashed, only that new information has turned up pointing toward an explosive device.

“While the investigation is still ongoing we cannot say categorically why the Russian jet crashed,” the spokesman said in a statement. “But as information has come to light we have become concerned that the plane have been brought down by an explosive.”

Cameron discussed the findings with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi Tuesday night. The new report has caused British airlines to cancel flights to the region until further notice.

Conflicting reports about the cause of the crash has previously been released by Russia and Egypt. Egyptian leaders have labeled claims from ISIS taking responsibility for the crash as “propaganda,” while Russia refuse to rule out terrorism.

Remains from about 150 bodies have been examined in St Petersburg. Autopsy reports reveled that passengers at the rare suffered “explosive trauma with multiple burns over 90 percent of their soft tissues.” The passengers in the back of the aircraft had shrapnel injuries and were peppered with metal particles. Russian experts are still trying to determine whether the injuries were caused by reputed fuel tanks or an explosive devise.
