Donald Trump is dominating the national polls leading up to the Iowa caucuses, but in one poll, he is dead last.
A Pew Research Poll released Wednesday found that only 30 percent of American adults say Trump is a religious person –behind all other presidential candidates from both sides of the aisle. Out of those polled, 37 percent say they believe Trump is “Not at all” religious, a higher number than any candidate.
About 48 percent of adults think Hillary Clinton is a religious person.
Republicans, more than Democrats, think Trump is religious. About 44 percent of Republicans say Trump is a “very” or “somewhat religious” person.
“By contrast, fully eight-in-ten Republicans say they think Ben Carson is a religious person, three-quarters view Ted Cruz as a religious person, and seven-in-ten say the same about Marco Rubio,” Pew states.
The survey was done from Jan 7-14 based on answers from 2,009 adults.
In Iowa, evangelical voters hold considerable clout, and Trump has tried to appeal to those voters. Recently, however, Trump was criticized for his lack of knowledge of the Bible when during a speech at Christian school Liberty University he said “Two Corinthians,” instead of “Second Corinthians.” Sen. Ted Cruz even poked fun at Trump during a campaign speech, joking “Two Corinthians walk into a bar.”
Overall, though, Trump still leads in national polls by a significant margin. Real Clear Politics national polling average has Trump at about 36 percent, far above second place candidate Cruz, who is at about 19 percent.
