Maine Democrats Think Increasing "White" Suicide Rates are Hilarious [VIDEO]

The plight against the patriarchy has hit a new low, as attendees at a Maine Democratic Party event seemingly found the the rising suicide rate among white men extremely funny.

Onetime Democratic state Senate candidate Richard Fochtmann was speaking at a Pint Tree Staters event in Maine, when his speech shifted to identity politics. Specifically speaking about how more women should be involved in the Democratic Party in his state, when he interrupted himself and began sharing a thought he’d had about a statistic he had seen recently, reported the Blaze.

“Today, you know, I saw a thing, and it said a lot of men — white men — are committing suicide,” he said. “I almost thought, ‘Yeah, great!’”

“Then I thought about it little more, and I thought maybe I shouldn’t say that out in public,” he concluded.

In response, the crowd was left in stitches.

The Daily Caller reached out to Fochtmann, who wrote the comment off as a joke, though he says that it’s a “good thing” that it won’t be long before America is not a majority-white nation:

When asked about his remark, Fochtmann told The Daily Caller “a joke’s a joke isn’t it?”

“I’m a white male. I’m an old man, and I’m appalled by what’s happening to a lot of people my age, and their either lack of morality or whatever it is,” he continued. “There’s no big protest going on about [the Trump] administration.”

“It’s anathema to me. I hear a lot of people out there espousing things about being good Christians, being patriots and what not. We just read different history books. Different Bible, everything.”

“I don’t really know what to say,” Fochtmann conceded. “I thought the point of the joke is that it won’t be long, and that this won’t be a majority white nation, and I think that’s a good thing.”

Luckily, when Fochtmann ran for state senate, he was handily beat by Maine’s Republican state Senate majority leader, Garrett Mason, reports the Blaze.

WHITE SUICIDE RATES

According to NPR:

In a 2015 study by Anne Case and Angus Deaton it was discovered that the death rates among middle-aged white Americans had been rising dramatically since 1999 due to what they called “deaths of despair. Typically induced by suicide, drugs and alcohol.

They say that a lack of steady, well-paying jobs for whites without college degrees has caused pain, distress and social dysfunction to build up over time. That, accompanied by reduced labor force participation, reduced marriage rates, increases in reports of poor health and poor mental health, have increased the mortality rate for that group, ages 45 to 54, by a half percent each year from 1999 to 2013.
