Democratic Congresswoman: ‘Dems Are Way Too Nice’ To Trump

Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters from California thinks that Democrats are just too nice to Republican lawmakers, according to a Monday report from Rawstory.

Waters vowed to fight President-elect Donald Trump every step of the way in her capacity as ranking member of the Senate Committee on Financial Services, a move that goes against Sen. Chuck Schumer, who indicated he would be willing to work with Trump on a number of key issues in the coming years.

“I tell you, that has been a problem in my party,” Waters said about whether or not Democrats were too nice to Republicans. “That when we’re in power, we’re nice. We bend over backwards to work with people. Trump has stepped over everybody. He has no respect for his own colleagues, let alone those on the opposite side of the aisle.”

“As a ranking member of the Financial Services Committee, where he said he’s going to bring down Dodd-Frank and he’s going to get rid of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I’m going to fight him every inch of the way,” Waters said during the interview, before making it clear she had no intention of working with the newly elected president in any capacity.

“Oh no, I won’t go! I’m not going to sit down with him, I’m not going to go. I’m not going to pretend. I’m not pretending,” Waters asserted. “Why should I trust him?”

Schumer indicated his willingness to sit down and discuss the issues with Trump through staffers, according to a Politico report earlier this month.

“He’s a hard partisan fighter who knows how to win and wants to win seats, but also wants to put deals together and get things done,” said one former Schumer aide. “He has very few permanent enemies in this town.”

The guest list at Trump tower made it clear the President-elect is more than willing to sit down with those who oppose him. Several Democratic supporters, like billionaire Bill Gates and Kanye West, visited Trump before Christmas. Trump said throughout the course of the campaign that he planned to work with Democrats during his tenure as president.
