Dating can be great. But when it’s not, dating can suck. Just ask…anybody. There are always a bunch of single people who want not to be single people. Going through the motions, meeting people who seem interesting, only to slog through awkward conversation and unreturned phone calls. It’s enough to bring you down. But there’s always a way out.
People tend toward a single dating strategy. It’s a behavior pattern that makes sense to them, one they think will work out if they just repeat it enough times. And while this may eventually be true, there are actually a lot of ways to date. While it’s easy to forget that because other methods aren’t what you’d normally try on your own, it’s important to remember them and try them out in your own life. You never know; maybe one of these will pay off for you in a big way.
- Get Outside of Your Demographic. Some people have a great surprise when they date outside their demographic only to learn that they’re well received. This often happens for people dating in a new state or country. They find that the young single people there don’t see them like the young singles do back home. If you’re a guy, foreign women dating may be for you, and probably won’t be that hard even if you try to do it from home. The internet makes this easy. Look for dating sources in your area that cater to interracial, or even international, dating. Give it a try. You may be surprised at how it works for you.
- Analog/Digital. If you are used to dating in the real world – going to bars and whatnot – try online/mobile dating. If you can’t imagine going on a date with someone without first swiping right on their mobile dating profile, maybe it’s time for you to try out dating in the real world. When we date, we tend to stay within our comfort zones. While this can keep us from experiencing a lot of discomfort all at once, it’s not enough for most of us to accomplish the things we really need to accomplish.
- Do Some Self-Improvement. Sometimes we have bad experiences in dating because we’re not where we should be. There are common emotional and physical problems which make us less than attractive to people we’d like to go out with. Many of these things can be improved in not too much time. If you are overweight or unfit, try a free day pass at the Y or start working with a personal trainer. If you’ve got some emotional baggage, sit down with a counselor or therapist who can take some weight off your shoulders. If you start making these changes, you’ll be more attractive automatically, and you might even meet someone cute at the gym.
There are plenty of ways to date. If dating isn’t working for you, don’t get locked into a single method. Stretch out. You’ll be glad you tried something new.
