Could Hillary Lose Top Secret Security Clearance?

James Comey hints at “security and administrative sanctions”

Yesterday, FBI Director James Comey announced that the bureau would not recommend charges be pursued against Hillary Clinton for her use of an unsecured private email server. This announcement no doubt outraged many Americans.  However, although it may not be as satisfying, many may have missed the hint Comey gave at the press conference, suggesting that Hillary could be facing security and administrative sanctions.

Comey said:

To be clear, this is not to suggest that in similar circumstances, a person who engaged in this activity would face no consequences, to the contrary, those individuals are often subject to security or administrative sanctions. But that is not what we are deciding now.

In all the shock, many may have missed the significance when Comey said, “But that is not what we are deciding now.” Therefore, this scandal may not be completely over after all. In an article on the subject, USA Today wrote she “almost certainly” maintains a Top Secret Clearance.  They further report, “Neither the State Department, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence nor the Clinton campaign would comment on Clinton’s security clearance Tuesday.”

If elected, Clinton may be beyond governing laws regulating security clearances. So wouldn’t it be significant if she were to lose her security clearance prior to the general election? If this were to happen, it could put this matter in some perspective to the American voters; that she was so neglectful of her handling of secrets, that she posed to be a serious security risk and could no longer even qualify for clearance.

It will be in the hands of American voters to decide in November, if Hillary should be trusted enough with front line secrets included in briefings that only a president can get.
