Cop Lies About Gunfight to Cover Up Accidentally Shooting Himself

RICHARDSON COUNTY, NE – Earlier this month, Richardson County Sheriff’s deputy Joshua Nincehelser claimed that he saw a stopped car on a rural road and pulled over to help what he assumed was a distressed driver.  As the deputy approached the car, the driver allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at the deputy, who returned fire and engaged in a high-speed chase with the vehicle before stopping because of bullet holes in his windshield.

As it turns out, there was no other car. The cop accidentally shot himself in the arm and, rather than admit to his mistake, fired his weapon into his own patrol vehicle to make it look like he had survived a gunfight.

Nincehelser has been charged with felony criminal mischief, use of a firearm to commit a felony, obstructing justice and false reporting and abuse of public records.

It’s bad enough when ordinary civilians shoot themselves and make up stories to cover up their actions, but it’s even worse when members of law enforcement, who are supposed to be considered more “trustworthy” with firearms, do so.

The most surprising thing about this incident is that the Richardson County Sheriff’s office didn’t immediately switch to only patrolling in military supplied Mine Resistant Ambush Protection (MRAP) vehicles.
