WATCH: ABC Laughs as US Rep Warns of “President Trump” in July 2015

Congressman Trump

by Josh Guckert

In perhaps one of the more chilling video flashbacks from this cycle, Democratic Congressman Keith Ellison warns of the possibility of “President Trump” on an episode of ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos. He says in the clip:

All I want to say is that anybody from the Democratic side of the fence who’s terrified of the possibility of “President Trump” better vote, better get active, better get involved, because this man has got some momentum, and we better be ready for the fact that he might be leading the Republican ticket.

His comments are immediately followed by loud laughter by the commentator sitting beside him, who states that she was “sorry to laugh.” Stephanopoulos then remarked, holding back laughter, that “I know you don’t believe that.” Ellison continues to say:

We had Jesse Ventura in Minnesota win the governorship. Nobody thought he was going to win. I’m telling you, stranger things have happened.

In many ways, this kind of media elitism could be considered one of the driving forces behind what helped to elect Trump. As so many Americans expressed anger and outrage at a “rigged” system, they saw commentators on their televisions dismissing their very real concerns with laughter.
