CNN’s Brooke Baldwin Praises Herself For Getting ‘Creative’ With Hurricane Michael’s Camera Coverage

CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin patted herself on the back for her coverage of Hurricane Michael on “New Day” Friday and bragged about commandeering a chopper to show the enormity of the storm’s devastation.

“Brooke again, had you not commandeered a chopper through your persuasive powers, I don’t think that our viewers would have been able to see the vast devastation as early,” co-host Alisyn Camerota said. “You were some of the first eyes on this.”

“You get creative when you’re on the ground covering stories like this,” Baldwin replied. “I know I wanted to go to the hardest-hit area. I had a helicopter on the brain and I wasn’t going to let it go.”

“Our crews showed up yesterday morning very, very early at the executive airport here … and  basically made some friends with the folks at the front desk who led us to the helicopter hangar, who led us to a guy who knew a guy who happened to be in town — who normally flies the Grand Canyon who knew how to fly this particular kind of helicopter,” Baldwin continued.

“And we essentially said, ‘Listen, we have to show the country how bad it is. Please, can you get us up and fly and he agreed.’”

This isn’t the first time CNN has congratulated itself for helping hurricane victims. Back in September of 2017 CNN host Chris Cuomo was on site with displaced Floridians and the on screen banner read: “CNN HELPS HURRICANE IRMA VICTIMS CONNECT WITH FAMILY.”

Cuomo said people were coming up to the CNN crew asking for help with finding their families. The network then ran clips of Cuomo handing off a cell phone to the victims, while the camera crew filmed their deeply personal calls.

After comparing the disaster area to a war zone, Cuomo was concerned the crew wouldn’t have enough gas to make it back to New York.

“The heat, the lack of utilities, the lack of communications. It is really tough. We don’t even know if we have enough gas to get home at this point, and we are the least of what’s going down here,” Cuomo said.
