Chris Christie wants to help Lindsey Graham Get Re-Elected

 Tea For Two?

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) will campaign to help Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) get re-elected he announced Wednesday. Graham is facing a primary bid next year in his home state where he has a very high unfavorable rating. A recent poll from Winthrop University found that 48% of voters disapprove of the job Graham is doing. [contextly_sidebar id=”ddfa8524b260b548503f41215f5f1dbe”]

Hot Air writes: “Backing a pro-amnesty, super-hawkish incumbent like Graham is his way of brand-building. He knows he’s not going to win tea partiers in 2016, especially with Paul and (maybe) Ted Cruz in the mix, so here’s his chance to impress centrists and the donor class by showing them he’s not afraid to do battle with the right, even if it means helping one of grassroots righties’ Most Wanted to another term in the Senate. And if things go badly wrong in SC and Graham is overwhelmed by conservatives in the primary, that’ll be a message to Christie that he needs to tack right in 2015 during the presidential primaries to make amends.”

Governor Christie reportedly declined to campaign on behalf of Ken Cuccinelli, who list his race on Tuesday. Christie has positioned himself in opposition to the tea party, being a former prosecutor for President George W. Bush.

Political analyst Charlie Cook on MSNBC spoke about Christie’s possible presidential aspirations and whether the Tea Party might stand in his way said, “I can’t wait to see, in Iowa or New Hampshire, some Tea Party type calling him a liberal and Christie reaching down the guy’s throat and pulling his lungs out. I can’t wait to see that. I’ll pay money to see that.”

Christie’s victory was the first time that a Republican took more than 50% of the popular vote in New Jersey since President George H.W. Bush. He also won a majority of women and Hispanics, which the GOP is struggling to attract.
