Chipotle Proves Corporations Aren’t Evil

Corporations aren’t bad. Yes, you heard right.

Monolithic companies often get a bad rap. And because they’re deemed “evil,” the government often steps in to regulate them in the name of protecting consumers.

But just this week one corporation proved that companies are willing to listen to consumers’ demands.

Until recently, Chipotle didn’t list the ingredients in its meats, beans and salsas. Some people might not have minded that. But many foodies, including activist blogger Food Babe (a.k.a Vani Hari) did. And they requested Chipotle make available the ingredients in each item on its menu.

With the help of entertainment site Ecorazzi, Hari began an online petition.

A few months later Chipotle Communications Director Chris Arnold acquiesced and personally emailed her with the ingredient list, furthering the corporation’s “Food with Integrity” motto.

Hari also got Chipotle to take a few of its genetically-modified ingredients out of some of its recipes.

This scenario is a good reminder that corporations are entities that rely on consumer confidence and satisfaction.

And it’s an even better reminder that when left to the fate of consumer approval, companies will do the right thing on their own — no government modifications necessary.
