Cemetery denies request to install SpongeBob SquarePants Gravestones (VIDEO)

Cemetery Doesn’t Want SpongeBob Statues

CINCINNATI, OHIO – Kimberly Walker was a 28-year-old Army sergeant who was a great fan of everything SpongeBob SquarePants. When she was tragically murdered, her family wanted to give her a memorial that they thought she would have appreciated. So they spent $26,000 on two 6′ tall, 4′ wide SpongeBob statues and purchased six plots at the Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.

At first the cemetery gave their blessing, but then they changed their mind and ordered their removal.

“Although the family chose a design with the guidance of a Spring Grove employee, unfortunately the monument did not fit within Spring Grove Cemetery guidelines,” the cemetery president said.  “As an historic cemetery, we must constantly balance the needs of families who have just suffered a loss with the thousands of families who have entrusted us in the past.”

The family is fighting back. After they were told they would have to remove the monuments they scheduled a meeting to resolve the conflict. There is no word yet on the details of the contract the family signed with the cemetery when purchasing the plots.
