Carson’s Idiotic, Senseless Plan to Militarize the Canadian Border

Ben Carson is proving he can be as xenophobic and nationalistic as anyone else by espousing painfully stupid rhetoric towards our closest ally, Canada. Carson is trying to one-up Donald Trump’s plan to build a wall on our southern border by proposing we put troops on our northern border. I’m waiting for the next GOP front runner to suggest we build a dome around the entire country.

CBC reports:

Republican U.S. presidential candidate Ben Carson wants the National Guard and military personnel patrolling the U.S.-Canada border.

Carson’s call for troops is the sixth point in his “Seven Steps to a Safer America” plan unveiled Tuesday on his website.

U.S. President Barack Obama and Congress should immediately deploy the National Guard and military troops to patrol the U.S. southern border as well as designated spots along the northern border,” the sixth step in the plan reads.

Carson’s plan doesn’t identify specific areas of the U.S.-Canada border that he feels needs military patrol.

The point is part of Carson’s more elaborate anti-terrorism plan.

“Our country faces grave national security threats. We must act boldly and decisively to protect American citizens from terrorists at home and abroad,” Carson said in a statement online.

The game of who can espouse the most hawkish rhetoric is beyond transparent. Carson’s statements may have jumped the shark. America and Canada would both benefit from increased cooperation and ease of travel. We do not need to militarize the world’s longest peaceful border.
