Brothers Mow Elderly Woman’s Lawn So She Won’t Be Forced Into Jail

RIESEL, TX – Two Good Samaritan brothers and some assorted townspeople came to the aid of an elderly woman who had a warrant for her arrest. What was her heinous crime? Failing to mow the lawn on her property.

Gerry Suttle, 75, was shocked when she learned that she had a warrant issued for her arrest. “Just leave me alone. I’ve lived her for 59 years. I don’t know how much longer I’ve got to live here. I’ll be 76 in July,” Suttle said. “I’m 75 now and I’ve never had a speeding ticket, never had a parking ticket and now here I am got a warrant for my arrest from the big city of Riesel.”

Suttle was reportedly sent a letter telling her that she was required to mow the grass on the lawn across from her house which she owned. She claims that she never received the letter, resulting in the warrant. “My name is on the list,” she said. “If I get stopped, I’ll get picked up.”

“It has grown up and the court had issued her letter and then court issued a warrant for failure to appear,” Chief Danny Krumnow said.

Luckily, two neighborhood boys, the Reynolds brothers, stepped in to help by mowing the lawn for free. Other citizens of the town also came out with their equipment to assist in the effort to keep Suttle out of jail, but she is still required to report to the police for court over the issue. Suttle doesn’t believe it’s fair that the job is done but she still has to appear.

“It is very heartbreaking to see that someone that I didn’t even know came out and spent two hours in the sun doing what we thought the city wanted done — and then turn around and say ‘no,’” Suttle said.

“It doesn’t feel good that we did all that work in the hot sun and now that lady still has to go to court,” Brandon Reynolds said.
