Brother of Oregon Shooting Victim Has Sharp Words For President Obama

Jessy Atkinson, the brother of one of the victims of the Umpqua College shooter has some sage advice for Barack Obama: stop with the anti-gun agenda.

His sister, Cheyenne Fitzgerald was seriously injured in the shooting, and Jessy appeared on CNN Monday to discuss the recent tragedy. When Anderson Cooper asked what he’d say to President Obama, the young man, stammering–asked almost in disbelief  “really?”

“I would tell him to look where the problem really lies and quit running the agenda…of um…quit running the gun agenda,” Atkinson said. “It’s not the problem. It’s mental health in America. It’s obvious. All of us talk about it and I don’t know why we’re hiding from it.”

“We waste so much money and so much resources where they shouldn’t be overseas,” Atkinson continued. “We waste it on the war on drugs, you know we lock people up for smoking pot and waste tax dollars on that when we could be dumping it into healthcare systems and…um…really make an impact in ourselves.”

He concluded, “It doesn’t seem like our country is going in the right direction and it’s sad.”

Their mother, Bonnie Schaan, was also on with Jessy and she added, “I feel that our children should be able to protect themselves somehow.”
