The United States government is suspending funding to Egypt in the coming days. The U.S. spends $1.3 billion every year, which is mostly military spending and goes back to American contractors.

The instability of the Egyptian government after their recent coup has forced American policymakers to finally recant sending foreign aid. The U.S. has not yet officially notified the Egyptians of this decision. Shipments of F-16’s have begun to slowdown as well.

Street protests on Sunday in Cairo devolved into violence, when Muslim Brotherhood supporters clashed with security forces. The violence claimed 55 lives and injured some 250 people. Attackers killed six soldiers since Sunday in waves of escalating brutality.

People swam across the Nile river to avoid armored personnel carriers clearing the streets of protesters. 423 people were arrested on Sunday.
