BREAKING: Sen. Cruz begins filibuster of Obamacare (LIVE STREAM)

Bucking his party leadership, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has taken to the floor to begin a filibuster of Obamacare. Bolstered by the encouragement of his base, he started today at 2:40pm a talking filibuster that will stand against the funding of the president’s Affordable Care Act. His party leadership, Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is opposing his push, but the Texas maverick has decided not to heed them and to strike out anyway.

Cruz knows he can’t win and the votes are against him, but that won’t stop him. He’s echoing a similar strategy set forth by his colleague Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) who became famous for filibustering the president’s CIA pick, John Brennan over the drone issue. That filibuster lasted 13 hours and was bolstered by the Kentucky senator eating candy bars and getting support from an online fan base that made #standwithrand famous on Twitter and making Paul a household name.

Will #standwithted now do the same?
