Webb’s Departure Marks a Shift in Democratic Party Field

According to reports, Jim Webb is expected to announce today that he is withdrawing from the Democratic Presidential primary. This announcement comes after (as reported by The Libertarian Republic) he had suggested that he was considering an Independent run for the Presidency.

Webb had been unlike any of the other four major Democratic candidates in that seemed much more reasonable on a host of issues. Rather than dividing the populace by using emotional and charged language, he was more keen on injecting reason. Though he is still center-left, his ideology is markedly different from the radical left bent of the rest of the Democrats vying for the Presidency. For example, he is a staunch proponent of gun rights, which is in stark contrast to the four other Democratic contenders, who all continually decry the NRA.

Webb had complained of receiving far too little time in the first Democratic debate. He is likely to be soon replaced in the Democratic field by incoming candidate Joe Biden, who seems to be positioning himself as a more “moderate” Democrat.

With Webb apparently running as an Independent, he could become an option for libertarian-minded voters in November should Rand Paul not receive the Republican nomination. More news on Jim Webb and his plans for 2016 will be revealed throughout the day and coming weeks.
