Black Lives Matter – Vancouver members complained that the Women’s March in the Canadian city did not include enough black speakers.

BLM – Vancouver claimed that the absence of black and transgender female speakers was “problematic,” reports teleSUR.

“We are pleased to see that the list of speakers includes Indigenous people and women of color,” Black Lives Matter-Vancouver stated on its website. “However, the apparent lack of Black women and trans women in both the organization and on the official speakers’ list is problematic.”

The chapter also chastised the march for not including Black Lives Matter in the planning of the event.

“The Vancouver organizers did not contact, consult, or include Black Lives Matter Vancouver despite the fact that the misogyny and bleak realities of the Trump administration will disproportionately harm Black people and people of color, particularly those who are trans and queer,” the group went on in its statement.

The Women’s March focused on issues like police brutality, immigration, abortion, gay issues and the environment. It claimed to send a “bold message” after the U.S. presidential election “insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us.”

The Black Lives Matter chapter later accused the Vancouver march of trying to silence people who spoke out against the lack of inclusion in the event. According to the group, an entire thread of complaints were deleted from the march’s event page.

“This is an act of silencing and violence. This is precisely demonstrative of the issues we raised in our original statement -the irony is palpable,” the group claimed. “This active suppression of our voices only serves to perpetuate the exclusion and lack of accountability we have highlighted.
