Bill Nye the “Science Guy,” said he’s ok with throwing global warming skeptics in jail, during an interview with the conservative Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT) published on Youtube Wednesday.
Nye was asked by CFACT interviewer Marc Morano if he agrees with other green activists that the government should throw global warming skeptics into jail as criminals, and the science educator responded “Well, we’ll see what happens. ”
“Was it appropriate to jail the guys from ENRON?” Nye asked.”Was it appropriate to jail people from the cigarette industry who insisted that this addictive product was not addictive and so on? For me as a taxpayer and voter — the introduction of this extreme doubt about climate change is affecting my quality of life as a public citizen.”
Nye was being interviewed for “Climate Hustle,” an upcoming documentary film skeptical of global warming that premiers nationwide next month.
When asked if his proposal would generate a chilling effect on scientific research, Nye responded, “That there is a chilling effect on scientists who are in extreme doubt about climate change — I think is good.”
The question was a reference to green activist Robert F. Kennedy’s statement in a September 2014 interview that the government should “punish” and imprison anyone who says that global warming “does not exist.” Kennedy also accused the Koch Brothers of “treason” for “polluting our atmosphere.”
Kennedy’s claims provoke a sharp response from many conservative publications such as The National Review and The Washington Times.
