A man filmed the moment a shark latched on to his wife’s arm during a snorkeling trip in the Bahamas.
Sarah Illig can be seen swimming through the water during her honeymoon when the massive nurse shark appears from the shadows and tears a chunk out of her arm. She recoiled in pain shortly afterward and made for safer waters.
“I felt a whoosh of water, something clamped down on my arm and I assumed my husband was playing a prank on me,” Illig said, referring to her husband Evan Carroll, who filmed the entire encounter, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

“Less than a second later, I realized how much it hurt and looked past where my goggles were blocking my side vision to see the shark (bigger than myself) latched on to my arm,” she said. “I pulled away and got out of there.”
Illig lost some flesh after the bite but managed to finish the rest of the trip without stitches or any major medical treatment.
“Yes! If we were home we would have gotten some stitches but it worked out not getting them!” she said, according to the New York Post. “Only had a bunch of flesh wounds along my arm. We were worried about staph or another infection but it’s healing great!”
Nurse sharks are mostly docile and rarely attack humans. The sharks for not rank in the top five most deadly species to human. However, a swimmer did die in November after a shark mauled him at a beach in Cuba.
