Three Baltimore police officers involved with the Freddie Gray case might lose their jobs, a Monday report said.
Five officers face charges of breaking department policy after an internal investigation looked into the death and arrest of Gray, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Officer Caesar Goodson, the driver of the van, Lt. Brian Rice and Sgt. Alicia White, could all be fired, sources told the Baltimore Sun. The two officers who arrested Gray at first, Edward Nero and Garrett Miller, are looking at a five day suspension with no pay.
The officer who went to trial over manslaughter charges, William Porter, does not face any discipline.
The officers learned of their charges Friday, after the Montgomery and Howard County Police departments completed their investigation of the Freddie Gray case. The officers have two options: they can accept their punishments or they can fight it in front of a panel of police officers. The panel would vote whether to keep the charges and Police Commissioner Ken Davis would decide how to punish the officers if the charges are kept
Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, who tried to prosecute the six officers, praised the report.
“This case has always been about providing justice for an innocent 25-year-old man who was unreasonably taken into police custody, severely injured while in police custody, and died due to a lack of care,” Mosby said. “If today’s news is accurate, I am relieved to know that a majority of those involved will be held administratively accountable for their actions.”
The Baltimore Police Department spokesman declined to comment, citing a “personnel matter”
