CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — At least one person is dead and 19 are injured after a vehicle reportedly plowed through a group of people in Charlottesville, Va. Saturday.
The incident occurred in the early afternoon during clashes between white supremacists, Black Lives Matter, Antifa and other groups.
Charlottesville Mayor Mike Signer announced that at least one person died as a result of the vehicle incident, and the Associated Press reported 19 injured. Numerous eye witnesses told The Daily Caller News Foundation that the vehicle was driven by a member of the white supremacist movement. TheDCNF has not yet confirmed the identity of the perpetrator.
“I am heartbroken that a life has been lost here,” the mayor said via Twitter. “I urge people of good will — go home.”

Virginia Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency Saturday after violent clashes broke out in the streets. Hundreds of law enforcement officials remain in the streets as tensions rise.
