Army Base Locked Down Over ‘Suicide Bomber’ Halloween Costume

The U.S. Army base Fort Bragg declared emergency lockdown Oct. 30 because a servicemember figured it was a smart idea to show up at the gates dressed in a suicide bomber costume.

The servicemember was wearing a simulated explosive vest when he tried to gain access to Fort Bragg, in North Carolina, which prompted a full emergency response and gate closure. An investigation is still underway, but preliminary information reveals that the costume was just for Halloween.

A Facebook post from the fort emphasized, “The Fort Bragg Garrison Commander wants the community to have a safe and fun Halloween; however, costumes of this sort are not allowed on Fort Bragg. All costumes should be appropriate in dress and tasteful.”

Servicemembers, according to the post, should not be wearing suicide bomber costumes — even off base.

But this post was soon deleted off the fort’s Facebook page because “comments on [the post] were either profane, sophomoric, or did not treat the subject seriously.”

“Please take note that this is a family-friendly website meant to inform and keep our families safe, many of whom have directly felt the effects of real – not costumed – suicide bombers,” the Fort Bragg Facebook page added.
