Arkansas Cop Fired For Shooting “Threatening” Chihuahua

A graphic video released this past Friday, shows a Sheriff’s Deputy in Faulkner County, Arkansas casually shooting a chihuahua while responding to a call after the owner refused to walk into his yard to speak with police, in what the owner said was an act of retaliation.

According to the NEA report, a woman placed a call complaining that Doug Canady’s dog, Reese’s, was aggressive toward her. The dog in question was a nine pound chihuahua.  Canady told NEA he had never seen the woman before, but that she was walking through the neighborhood, possibly on a stroll. As she walked by, Canady was on his porch, he said. His dogs started barking at her, and she responded by pulling out a gun and pointing it at the dogs, which Canady said was in the direction of his house.

Canady told the woman she needed to put the gun away to which she responded by calling 9-1-1. Canady didn’t want to deal with the drama, so he went back inside to get ready for work, which is where he was when Deputy Keenan Wallace arrived at his door.

Wallace tried to get Canady to step into his yard to talk to him. Canady refused the request which is where the video picks up.

“Okay, I’m going to come to you, and if your dog gets aggressive, I’m going to shoot it,” Wallace responds in cell phone video captured by Canady.

The dog miraculously survived the shooting with a shattered jaw. A GoFund Me has been set up to help pay for Reese’s medical bills. The campaign has currently raised $19,600 in three days and is trending on the website.

Deputy Wallace has since been fired from the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page. Sheriff Tim Ryals stated, “As a result of the incident that occurred on January 4, 2019 in the Shiloh Estates Subdivision, Deputy Keenan Wallace has been relieved of his duties at the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office.”
