Train Accident in Argentina, Mob Attacks Conductor, 80 injured (VIDEO)

80 People Wounded in Capital of Argentina, Third Train Accident in Two Years

BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA – A train failed to stop at the end of the line in the capital of Argentina on Saturday, injuring 80 people.

The train ripped through the same station that another train crashed in last year in very much the same way, killing 51. Another smaller crash occurred in June when two trains collided, killing three and injuring more than 100.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of this most recent incident. News outlets are reporting that commuters formed a mob and began chanting “murderer” at the injured conductor. Police were called in to secure the location and push the mob back.

“I saw people hurt, shouting, others thrown on the floor. The people in the first wagon ended up piled on top of each other,” one witness said.

There were no reports of any mechanical failures before the accident and the vehicle had been inspected the day before, according to the minister of trains and elections.

The government of Argentina has taken more control of the train systems in recent years. The event is poor timing for sitting President Cristina Kirchner. A national election is occurring on October 27th.

Argentinian train drivers have a long history of being caught asleep at the switch. Some have been photographed reading books, talking on the phone and yes, being caught asleep while behind the controls.
