Arab Airlines Troll Marine Le Pen Supporters Following Defeat

A commercial airliner in the Middle East trolled French far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen and her supporters Saturday before she was defeated by President-elect Emmanuel Macron.

“France is not that far… right?” the tweeted advertisement reads, poking fun at the political ideology of Le Pen with a double entendre alluding to the flight distance of the country. “Be Smart. Be Jordanian. Fly Royal Jordanian.”

On the day of the election and after the results were in, Royal Jordanian Airlines official Twitter account published another irreverent and witty social media post.

“Sometimes going left feels right … Fly left with RJ,” reads the pithy Royal Jordanian post, referring to both the geographic direction of France relative to the country of Jordan, as well as the political leaning of Macron relative to Le Pen.

The airliner is likely not much of a fan of Le Pen and her populist policies.

The person or people in charge of Royal Jordanian Airlines’ social media accounts have subtly lampooned conservative or right-leaning politicians before.

The airline released a graphic in March offering passengers a list of “12 things to do on a 12-hour flight with no laptop or tablet” after President Donald Trump mandated a ban on larger electronics on certain flights from mostly Middle Eastern countries.

It sardonically said people could “read a book,” “enjoy a light snack,” “meditate,” or “appreciate the miracle of flight” to pass the time instead.

Royal Jordanian wasn’t the only carrier from the Middle East to try to capitalize on the decision and offer their passengers a solution. Qatar Airways announced at the end of March that it would be offering laptops directly to passengers in response to the U.S. government’s ban.
