Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), one of the most famous progressive politicians in Congress, has managed to amass an extensive Twitter following and stay in the headlines on all media platforms.
Has her position of power gone to her head? Last week at a Girls Who Code town hall event in New York City, Ocasio-Cortez boldly declared that she was “the boss.”
In spite of the fact that Ocasio-Cortez is the duly elected public servant of the people of New York’s 14th congressional district, she arrogantly declared herself “the boss” in response to criticism stirred up by her so-called “Green New Deal,” a massive socialist proposal that seeks to reverse, or at least slow down, climate change.
“You know what? I don’t care anymore. I don’t care anymore, because again, I’m at least trying, and they’re not,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “So the power is in the person who’s trying, regardless of the success. If you’re trying, you’ve got all the power, you’re driving the agenda, you’re doing all this stuff.”
“Like I just introduced Green New Deal two weeks ago and it’s created, creating all of this conversation. Why? Because no one else has even tried,” she claimed. “So people are like ‘oh it’s unrealistic, oh it’s vague, oh it doesn’t address this little, minute thing.’ And I’m like you try, you do it.”
“So until you do it, I’m the boss!” she declared. “How about that?!”
In addition to her high-and-mighty behavior, Ocasio-Cortez, who is just one freshman lawmaker in a group of 435, challenged her detractors on Friday to “come up with your own ambitious, on-scale proposal to address the global climate crisis.”
“Until then, we’re in charge — and you’re just shouting from the cheap seats,” she said.
Ocasio-Cortez’s comments have stirred up quite a backlash on Twitter from many voices including that of Ben Shapiro who likened her remarks to the actions of his two-year-old child.
The god-complex under which Ocasio-Cortez and her progressive counterparts operate is painfully apparent as she boldly makes the assertions that she is in control and that the world is doomed unless we take government action against “climate change.”
