Americans Love Guns More Than Ever- No Longer Support Assault Weapon Ban

Much to the chagrin of President Obama, Americans love guns more than ever; purchases are on rise and support for a once popular assault weapon ban has reached record lows.

There was a time when American support for the assault weapons ban was near universal; around 80% in 1994 supported such restrictions. But now that number has plummeted to only 45%, marking a dramatic shift in public opinion.

Gun sales are skyrocketing as well, as Americans have sought to arm themselves in the face of terrorist threats and anti-gun government rhetoric. Spurred by the violence in Paris, Americans bought enough guns on Black Friday to arm a new branch of the military. And gun sales have climbed even higher since San Bernardino.

Americans are rejecting the demagogues who call for disarmament and are instead embracing firearms in unprecedented numbers. It seems Barack Obama has done an amazing job selling guns, albeit unintentionally, by stoking fears of government restriction and failing to make Americans feel safe.
