Veterinarian Allegedly Had Dog ‘Euthanized,’ Kept it Alive for Blood Transfusions (VIDEO)
Needlessly ‘euthanized’ dog reunited with owners
In the 1992 comedy film “Beethoven,” a crooked veterinarian manipulates dog owners into believing that their pets need to be euthanized – then secretly uses the animals to test ammunition. That’s more or less what one veterinarian in Fort Worth, Texas allegedly did last year.
In 2013, Jamie and Marian Harris left their Leonberger, Sid, at the clinic of veterinarian Lou Tierce. When they returned to visit Sid, they found their dog unable to use his hind legs. Tierce explained that Sid had a degenerative spinal condition and needed to be euthanized. The Harris family agreed, and left Sid at the clinic.
The clinic then kept Sid alive for six months after his supposed euthanization, allegedly using him to give blood transfusions to other dogs. Jamie and Marian rescued Sid after a former employee of the clinic contacted them.
A different veterinarian has since examined the Leonberger and said that it is not necessary for him to be euthanized.
The owners of at least four other dogs have since discovered that pets they thought had been euthanized were still alive at the same clinic.
