Sweep the leg!
8-year-old Jacob Soliz Amaya was sleeping peacefully when all of a sudden a pillow covered his head and he could feel himself being beaten savagely with a metal object. Someone was trying to kill him. But this was no ordinary child.
This was a karate kid.
Helen Newsome was Jacob’s father’s ex-girlfriend. He had known her during his dad’s relationship and even treated her like a step-mother. Newsome was reportedly angry about the end of the relationship days earlier and wanted to get back at the father. So she decided to hurt him in the worst way possible, by harming his son, Jacob.
Newsome allegedly hid in the Landover, Maryland home for more than 12 hours, waiting for the father to go to work so that she could kill the boy. From My Fox DC:
“She was smothering me,” says Jacob as he sat on a slide at a playground near his mother’s home in Anne Arundel county. “She was trying to make me not breathe. She covered my mouth – so I head-butted her. And then I beat her up and then she snapped out of it. And then she started hitting me with a dumbell on the back of my head. My head was bleeding like all over my body and so I ran out and I asked this neighbor to call 911.”
Amaya had taken karate classes this year, and he was ready to fight for his life. Newsome was arrested later and is being held on a $500k bond, charged with attempted murder in the first degree.
She got away lucky. It sounds like the kid could have easily put her in a body bag.
