6 Cleverly Inspiring Margaret Thatcher Quotes On Leadership

By R. Brownell

1. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee

“I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end.” -Thatcher

Far too often people tend to overreact, give up, or burn bridges when they aren’t getting their way. Small battles or giant wars have something in common though, its understanding when the time to lay down fire is smart, and when it’s just a waste of time.  Thatcher’s constant fight with the Unions was done in such a way that would have broken most leaders, yet persistence and clever political planning caused her opponents to break first.

2. Common Sense  Solutions

“Any woman who understands the problems of running a home will be nearer to understanding the problems of running a country.”

Far to often everyday, average people have to strive on past the complexity of their lives, finding simple solutions to fix sometimes major problems. Growing up in an average family and having a modest upbringing, Thatcher’s everyday appeal to the electorate, and understanding of how to boil down the UK’s issues made her the success she was.

3. Walks like a duck, looks like a duck

“Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.” -Thatcher

We all know that person who talks about how awesome and better than everyone else he is, but the question should be “do your actions match your words?” Something to consider in this upcoming election will be whether or not the candidates making these amazing promises are credible, and whether or not their past record can shed light on the future of America.

4. Harsh Reality

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”-Thatcher

Thatcher was a conservative voice when it was least popular to state the obvious truth. Still, because of her tact and her willingness to be unpopular, she was able to take England out of its darkest periods and save the nation from total economic collapse. She knew in her heart that the fiscally responsible virtues she held were ultimately true.

5. Marathon not a sprint

“You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.” -Thatcher

Thatcher was not an overnight success. She had to face several losses and set backs before becoming the Iron Lady we know her as today. Her tenacity in never backing down and always persevering, shows her willingness to never back down from a fight worth fighting.

6. The Iron Lady

“If it is once again one against forty-eight, then I am very sorry for the forty-eight.” -Thatcher

Confidence is what draws people to role models such as Reagan or Thatcher, and sadly these days, Donald Trump.
Whether it was her outfits to the way she spoke and how she carried herself, Thatcher knew that since she was always in the spotlight, she had to project the confidence and manner needed to be the leader of British people.
