1. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee
“I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end.” -Thatcher
Far too often people tend to overreact, give up, or burn bridges when they aren’t getting their way. Small battles or giant wars have something in common though, its understanding when the time to lay down fire is smart, and when it’s just a waste of time. Thatcher’s constant fight with the Unions was done in such a way that would have broken most leaders, yet persistence and clever political planning caused her opponents to break first.
2. Common Sense Solutions
“Any woman who understands the problems of running a home will be nearer to understanding the problems of running a country.”
Far to often everyday, average people have to strive on past the complexity of their lives, finding simple solutions to fix sometimes major problems. Growing up in an average family and having a modest upbringing, Thatcher’s everyday appeal to the electorate, and understanding of how to boil down the UK’s issues made her the success she was.
3. Walks like a duck, looks like a duck
“Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.” -Thatcher
We all know that person who talks about how awesome and better than everyone else he is, but the question should be “do your actions match your words?” Something to consider in this upcoming election will be whether or not the candidates making these amazing promises are credible, and whether or not their past record can shed light on the future of America.
