Cosmopolitan has released a cringeworthy video of four women confronting their boyfriends about their guns:
“It’s this extremely powerful death machine,” one girlfriend says.
I know, I know. Some readers are rolling their eyes and saying, “Who cares what Cosmo thinks about guns?!” Yeah, but, it’s one of the most read magazines in the country. Like it or not, it does reflect the views of a large demographic.
The women in the video express discomfort of their boyfriends having a gun in their home–even if it’s locked up. While female gun ownership has risen significantly in recent years, there are still a lot of women who have never held or shot a gun. This inexperience with firearms makes them afraid and uncomfortable around guns.
Unfortunately, this fear often translates them to them supporting stricter gun control measures.
I wish these women would familiarize themselves with guns. Too many people think of gun owners as lunatics, however, the vast majority are responsible law obeying citizens.
Taking a women-only gun safety and training course might lessen their fear. Where’s that Cosmo video? These courses are growing in popularity as more women want to take protection into their own hands.
Guns are considered the greater equalizer. As a 5′ 3″ woman, most men can easily overtake me. I don’t stand a chance against most attackers. A gun in my hand, though, evens the odds. That’s why I feel much safer in a home with a gun. I can take care of business.
There’s nothing wrong with these guys owning guns for self-defense. I just wish the women would understand the benefit of gun ownership, too.
